Pelican Caye Island is in the southern caye complex at the Turneffe Islands atoll. It should be called Lobster caye in honor of the huge lobster population. Pelican caye is beautiful both above and below the waters surface but diving here is comparable to Blackbird Caye just to the north. Eagle rays, mullet, grouper, and jewfish are common visitors to divers in this area. This end of the atoll near Pelican Caye is called the elbow named for the way the atoll complex turns and runs northward again with ridges and mangroves along a western edge. Pelican Caye is also known for the gigantic barracuda that swim the waters to the east and south.. A very well known shipwreck is located east of Pelican Caye.
